Skip the sales, buy the builder
I've spent enough time near enterprise AI sales to know the shape of it. A deck of promises. A discovery call to "understand your needs." A pipeline stage you get moved through by someone who has never built the thing they're selling. It's sanitized, it's slow, and it's mostly unhelpful to the person with the actual problem.
Ethos Tech is my attempt to run it the other way.
Here's a reference architecture that worked pretty ok. Here's what we found. We're building better things now — if you want them, book a time.
That's the whole pitch. Show the work instead of describing it. Tell you what actually happened, including the parts that didn't go to plan. Then let you decide. No qualification call, no forms, no layer of account executives translating your problem into someone's quota.
Buy the builder
When you engage Ethos Tech, you talk to the person who designs and ships the system. That's the point. The hard part of an AI project isn't the model — it's seeing the real business problem hiding in the data and building the envelope that makes the output trustworthy. That judgment doesn't survive a handoff from a salesperson to a delivery team to a subcontractor. So we don't do the handoff.
Small on purpose
I take a lot from the way 37signals has run for two decades: a small, tight-knit team, strong opinions, and a flat refusal to grow just because growth is available. A shop that must grow to survive ends up taking work it shouldn't and selling things it can't stand behind. I'd rather stay small and stay proud of the work.
Ethos Tech exists to feed a team like that — not a headcount chart. Which means we get to be selective. We take the problems we find genuinely interesting, do them well, and turn down the rest. That selectivity is a feature for you, not a bug: it's how you know the person across the table actually wants to solve your problem, not just close it.
What you get
The builder. Honest findings, including the ones that complicate the story. A bias toward shipping something real over presenting something polished. And a partner who plugs into your team instead of managing you from the outside.
